Pilmico Makes History: 500 Eggs per Hen at Week 100

Pilmico Animal Nutrition Corporation (Pilmico), a subsidiary of the Aboitiz Group’s agribusiness division, accomplished a remarkable milestone.

Their hens, at Week 100, successfully produced 500 eggs each, an achievement recognized by Hendrix Genetics.

This makes Pilmico the first company in the Philippines and Asia to reach this level of productivity.

Hold up. Let me do the Arithmetic first.

Suppose the breed of chicken layers Pilmico has lays at the age of 18 weeks.

So, 100 weeks minus 18 weeks is equal to 82 weeks.

Their layers have 82 weeks of productive egg-laying capability.

If that’s the case, 500 eggs divided by 82 weeks is equal to 6.10 eggs per week.

On the other hand, Alpha Agventure’s Rhode Island Reds and Black Australorps only have a record of 400 to 450 eggs in 100 weeks based on our farm’s records.

I don’t think I should be envious or jealous of that feat because Pilmico is a gigantic company with a huge capital expenditure that can afford to a world-class, commercial-sized facility and management for their flock.

Meanwhile, Alpha Agventure Farms is a small-scale farm that can only afford to be the number 1 backyard farm in the Philippines.

During the Philippine Poultry Show and Ildex Philippines 2023, Dr. Serge Tan, the Assistant Vice President for Poultry and Swine Grower-Finisher Operations at Pilmico, received the esteemed “500 Egg Club Award” from Henry Hendrix, the Layers Sales Manager of Hendrix Genetics, and Pol Mendoza, the President of Heritage Veterinary Corporation.

Dr. Tan expressed his satisfaction, highlighting the significant impact of Pilmico’s attainment of the 500 Egg Club Award.

He emphasized the dedication of the Poultry team and the establishment of a new industry standard for poultry excellence in the Philippines and Asia.

Prior to this noteworthy milestone, Pilmico Farms typically yielded between 470 and 492 eggs per hen at Week 100.

In comparison, the industry average in the Philippines ranged from 400 to 450 eggs per hen.

Dr. Tan attributed their success to various factors, including the utilization of suitable layer genetics and equipment, efficient farm management systems, and, notably, the provision of high-quality feeds by Pilmico.

The hard work, dedication, and innovative mindset of the Poultry team were also crucial contributors to their accomplishment.

The Philippine Poultry Show and Ildex Philippines 2023 took place from June 7 to 9, 2023, at the SMX Convention Center Manila. Pilmico actively participated as an exhibitor, showcasing their latest feed and farm management products.

Visitors to their booth had the opportunity to engage with farm experts and had a chance to win prizes.
